2021 Sorento and Telluride RSE Overview

The rear seat entertainment system (RSE) option available in the 2021 and newer Kia Sorento and Kia Telluride is a great $1500 option that will further increase the luxury and capability of these vehicles. My brief experience with these screens shows a user friendly interface, bright screens that provide great image quality, and are very touch responsive. Included in this option are two screens and two remote controls.

One thing to keep in mind is that this RSE system is different to the system in the 3rd generation of Sedona/Carnival, and is different to the 2022 (4th generation) of the Kia Carnival.

The operating system of these screens gives you a tile layout for your home screen that gives the user quick access to built in apps like an internet browser and Youtube. It is also able to play media from a variety of sources including Android screen mirroring, media from the USB inputs, and media from the SD card input. The USB ports can also charge a device as well.

The OS also allows you to download applications such as a chrome browser, calendar, contacts, etc. You can choose from a couple fun pre-installed games, or you can download more from the RSE App Store. One neat feature is you can download the RSE app, you can operate the RSE through your smartphone and use it as a game controller as well.

An important note is that many of the functions of the RSE require WiFi capability. Since Kia’s don’t offer in car wifi hotpotting, you will need to bring your own wifi hotspot or activate the hotspot capability on your phone.

Some things to keep in mind are the system does not include headphones, no DVD Player, the system also doesn’t seem to be able to connect to the cars in-car audio system, and no ability to connect the two screens together. A big bummer is that the screen mirroring function for the screens is only available for Android.

  1. Can the telluride 2021 rear entertainment center be removed? H have 2 young kids so I don’t want them to be up all the time but would love to use them for long car trips.

  2. We just purchased a 2021 Kia Sorrento with RSE. We would like the screen default to be off, so we can turn on (manually) when needed. At present, screens turn on every time we start up. Is there a setting we can change?
